WHO AM I?

I was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I moved to Florida when I was 9 years old and returned at 18. While away, I was always excited when people asked me where I was from. I'd puff my chest out, clear my throat, and let "Louisiana" roll off my tongue in a tone so sweet it could've given me cavities. Now, when I travel to different states and people ask me where I'm from, my shoulders sink a little, my voice softens, and "Louisiana" spews from my mouth so quickly that others are almost ashamed for me.I am a person, like many of you, who longs to be proud of this state again. I want our policies and elected officials to reflect the diversity and wonder of the most culturally saturated place in the country. I am hoping to do my part in making that happen.
